Main theme riffing

This is the main theme riff..  It's the groove riff that drives the track..  You can hear it in your left speaker while the leads are going on over on the other side and in the middle of things.

Be very loose with this and try not to loose the feel.

Leads over the Main theme riff

These are the leads that are going on while the riffing that's tabbed above is being played..

Remember I'm still using the Green Kramer here, which means the odd super flat tuning is still in use too..

Take upward in a RANDOM chromatic pattern,, BUT, notice how the first set stays put and taps on 9 for a bit.. This is common for Ed to do, and it's also a key element in making it sound like VH and not like some schmoe who's tapping chromatically...  lol...

SEE VIDEO FOR ADDITIONAL HELP WITH THIS LINE OF TAB and THIS TECHNIQUE..

Ending interlude (THE VIDEO LESSON WILL BE HELPFUL FOR THIS SECTION)

This is just guitar 1 doing some noises and dive bombs etc.. leading into a solo run through of the main theme riff which then leads into the "One foot on the floor" portion of the song.

Most of this doesn't translate well into tab, but I'll talk you through it on the video lesson, so no worries..  Remember I'm still using the Green Kramer here, which means the odd super flat tuning is still in use too..

The song goes into the tabs below from here....

______________________________________________________________

One foot on the floor tab section  (THE VIDEO LESSON WILL BE HELPFUL FOR THIS SECTION)

For this part of the track I switch to the White Kramer with a basic VH style flat tuning.. Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb... in other words just a standard tuning, but the pitches are 1/2 step flat technically speaking..

The key changes to Em and the tempo picks up to 196 from where it was at 64 previously...  This is very similar to what's going on with Sunday afternoon in the park and One foot out the door from Vh, both tuning, and tempo wise...

Enjoy and be loose with the leads.. and remember to try being rhythm guitar first, so you understand the groove a little bit...

Guitar 1 does the rhythm part.  Basically it's just driving single notes with a swing or shuffle feel to them..  AKA Hot for Teacher feel... I didn't tab the exact number of hits for each note below but you'll get the idea..

The chords you're soloing over are,  Em, G, and F

_______________________________________________________

Guitar 2 does the leads...  These are very traditional improvised VH leads and they're based on pieces of the the soloing sections that occur in "One foot out the door"... Which is why certain parts of it will sound familiar to some of you..  The sound is also similar to what Ed was doing on "One foot out the door"..  This was intentional on my part..  It's again, just a chorus and Flanger mix, with a thick Hall reverb... any Spring style reverb unit will do the trick in a live setting for a sound like this...

Remember, we're using a standard guitar tuning now, just 1/2 step flat... You can play it with a standard tuning if you want, you just won't match my pitch on the mp3..  Either way for Early VH type stuff, a flat tuning is a must... It's a sin in my house to tune a Kramer guitar to anything other than Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb...  You just can't get that early VH sound with a standard E, A, D, G, B, E, guitar tuning...  So if possible always have a flat tuned guitar in your arsenal of axes...

That taps below are just gliss taps that go upward in a semi random chromatic sequence.  The beginning little riff that starts it is very important to the feel of it though..  See vid for help..
