Interlude
Phase 90 throughout
Now this interlude is
basically a Pre-solo. This has some fills and soloing in it but for the
most part it's used much the way we talked about in the V H Song Structure
lesson where we covered Interludes. It's used to get the listener geared
up for the solo. It has a slightly off time feel from the rest of the song
with off beat accents. This particular interlude is basically just noises
however there are some great VH tricks thrown in here that you've heard in
actual VH songs before so it's a decent learning exercise and great practice
making noises around a drum beat.
**Tip** I wrote
the drum hits first, then the guitar parts. This is helpful sometimes for
being sure you can get the feel right and also to provide inspiration for what you're
going to do.

Solo
This is a quirky solo and
you'll need to move around quickly to do it. I've simplified it a
little bit from how I normally play it in an effort to keep it so that everyone
can play it or most everyone anyway. The point here is to give a lesson.
V. H.. is a state of mine, you don't have to be complex to play it. One
note at a time or one phrasing section at a time is how you want to view or
approach a V. H.. like solo. This solo is also half the length of the full
solo I normally do for this song. I condensed it for Lesson purposes.
Still a great little noodle around thing that's excellent for getting a handle
on the V H feel or V H Vibe as we call it around here.
I'll demo this for
you on the video and basically play along with myself so you can see it played
in real time. The trick is to be loose with it. Put some rests in
there and give yourself some breathing room. The one thing I love about
V. H.. and V. H.. like solos is that they are not over played. Over
playing kills the feel of them. So be cool.

IMPORTANT:
Below is what you are soloing over.
The Bass Drives C, to E. Then follows the root notes of the chord hits at
the end. Look at the notes that make up the chords and build you solo
around either those notes or the theme of those notes.

** TIP ** You can embellish on
these chords and do a strumming pattern to feel if you like, but with big open
string ring out chords like these it's ok to lay back, they sound cool anyway
and have a lot of fullness to them without a lot of strumming.

This is a shortened version of the actual solo I normally play for this song
however it's a good representation of the kind of soloing you can do over the

I strongly suggest
using a Phase 90
