Intro

**PLEASE READ THE NOTES BELOW CAREFULLY..  THE POINT OF THIS STUFF IS LESSONS, AND THERE'S NO LESSON IN JUST LEARNING THE RIFF...  THE LESSON IS IN UNDERSTANDING THE RIFF SO YOU CAN WRITE OF YOUR OWN ANY TIME YOU WANT...

This song is actually an adaptation off the "Munsters" TV show theme...  The reality is the Munsters theme is very happy, yet it uses a flat 5th from the Locrian mode so it could be evil..  That wasn't what the shows execs had in mind though..  Surf music was big when the Munsters came on the air in 1964, and they went more that route.. It was more of a surf Halloween than anything else..

I took and did with this track a 2.5 step flat standard tuning.  B, E, A, D, F#, B...  This gives the song an Evil feel right there...  Then I blended Octave and Chorus to thicken it even more...  Then I changed the scale used in the Munsters song..  The scale in the Munsters song is basically an E minor scale with a flat and natural 5th..  It's, E, F#, G, A, B, Bb, C, D...  Now obviously the Munsters song is tuned standard, but I would prefer we look at our song here as standard and not 2.5 steps flat..  It's easier in your head if you forget the tuning and just look at it as a regular guitar tuning...  So despite it actually pitch wise being in Bm, we'll look at it for lesson purposes as E minor like the Musters song and our scale here has a couple notes added to it..  It's basically an E Locrian scale but I utilize in spots the Harmonic minor.  Which means I include the Major 7th in spots...  So I'm blending Locrain (minor scale with a flat 2nd and flat 4th) with harmonic minor (minor scale with a Major 7th) and we get for our more evil Munsters scale, E, F, G, A, Bb, C, D#...

Now technically I'm using more notes than that...  When blending modes use them all...  We'll talk about this advanced topic on Soloing 101 part Deux whenever I actually finish it and it's released..  But until then let me say that our actual scale here incorporates, Aeolian, Locrian, and Harmonic minor into one mega scale..  E, F, F#, G, A, Bb, B, C, D, D#..

See video for additional lesson of course...

TABs ASSUME YOU ARE TUNED 2.5 STEPS FLAT, B, E, A, D, F#, B...
You can play this with a standard E, A, D, G, B, E tuning but you won't be able to play along with the MP3 if you do.....

Final song ending -  The solo is tabbed below this final rhythm section...  I wanted to keep the rhythms all together..  This is the final ending of the song after the stop out of the post solo verse riffing....

Solo - The solo is over a short section of bridge riffing, then verse riffing, then basically the ending of the solo is over the ending of bridge version 2....  Pretty straight forward, I pretty much used the Munster scale for this, E, F#, G, A, Bb, B, C, D...  Remember not to view the guitar as having a weird tuning..  It's the same as a standard tuning it's just flatter..  So pretend we're in Em and not technically Bm as the pitches would indicate and just solo away...
