Intro
Welcome to the first installment of "Holiday JFRocks" for 2009...
For a change this year we voted and thought that Thanksgiving should get
some attention and that it shouldn't just be Christmas music....
Alice's Restaurant is an Arlo Guthrie classic at Thanksgiving in the US...
It is the song and the original is 15 minutes long and goes on and on...
Ours is 2:30 and is kicked up a little bit... I have a version of the
original song on the JFRocks UNplugged page for those who want to
compare....

Massacre in "C"..
This track is just like the original a swing Jazz Ragtime feel... On
the video lesson I'll walk you through the theory and what's making this all
tick... But really what I've done is what I often teach you to do..
I've taken something that isn't rock and made it rock by keeping a couple
things in mind.. The scale or mode in use, and breaking up some of the
fancier Jazz chords into arpeggios and riffing them out...
The opening is free timed a bit, but it's a good lead in for the kick in...
There's a lot to take away from this lesson as a student... The solo
is very traditional Jazz in positioning with some Van Halen flair thrown in
for good measure... But Van Halen lends itself well to Jazz as I talk
about on the
Skin SCUBA VH style Diver Down influenced Vin Heuton product..
A lot of you wrote in and said you learned more from that product than you
did in years of guitar lessons, while I appreciate the comments, I urge you
to pay very close attention to this song and its lesson.. If nothing
else it's a diminished 101 lesson from Hell....
Now crank up the track and get into the lesson... Be sure to load the
video too to get the most out of it... Also I have only tabbed the
guitar 1 main part.. But I have listed the chords in use under the
guitar 1 part both above the tabs and in a chord diagram as well.....

SOLO
These leads are simply over the main rhythm played through 1 and a half times...
The arrangement is slightly changed to keep it interesting... In this
solo we have a main theme that is played off of each time the song comes
around... I actually kept it very typical of a swing Jazz solo but added a
little VH flair to it for the rock crowd...
It's a happy solo that uses both the C Major or "Ionian" scale and the C
Mixolydian which is a Major scale with a minor 7th.. So the two scales in
use are, C, D, E, F, G, A, B and
C, D, E, F, G, A, Bb....
