Intro

There is some over dubbing going on with this track.  I have color coded the individual guitar parts below.

Black:  is guitar 1
Blue:
  is guitar 2

My suggestion for playing along with the mp3 is that you be a mix of guitar 1 and guitar 2 as that's what I would do in a live situation.  That's not to say you should always do what I would do.  LOL

Guitar 2 over guitar 1 with Octave on

Notice I put in the chord names from above.  I didn't do that because I enjoy typing.  LOL  Please examine the notes I'm using to create the melody that's under the chord hits and see if you can spot the relation to the chord.  Most of them are just roots but there is some noodling in there.

Guitar 2 continues on

Main Crowley Train theme riff

Octave still on!!

Be sure to apply some palm muted to the open string muted hits.

** With Train feel.  If you have my "Blues Explained" CD ROM you should be quite familiar with the Train Feel.  This is basically the main opening theme to Mr. Crowley with slight Embellishment in a different key with a Chugging along the tracks Crazy Train groove to it. **

Turnaround

Going to Bb as our chord so we're using the Phrygian mode here or the Flattened 2nd of our key.  Also the fill I put in here is Phrygian mode as well except it's over the C so it's a C Phrygian scale.

Fill

This is a half length fill of what Randy does in Mr. Crowley, I've moved it down 1 step in key however.

Solo

Easiest if looked at as a Key modulation to Em

Like I always say the rhythm that's under a solo is very important.  Our solo is basically an E minor chord pattern.  Or it could be viewed as an A Dorian mode chord pattern.  I don't really care how you view it just view it in a way that makes sense to you.  There won't be a quiz so don't worry about it.  Just for reference I view this as an E minor chord pattern as it starts with an E minor and that's what I'm going to build my soloing around.  So basically the song's rhythms are performed in A minor using the Dorian mode and solo is in the key of E minor.  This is all relative anyway as Em and A Dorian mode contain the same pitches but sometimes how something is viewed can make it easier to grasp in your own head.

We will be sticking with Randy Rhoads here for this solo and moving the scales or changing the scales I should say with the chord changes at times.

Bottom line folks, when it comes to soloing, KNOW YOUR CHORD PATTERN !!  If you don't you're just going to get lost.  Know what notes make up the chords in your chord pattern, know key signature of the key you're in, know what chord the rhythm is on while you're doing leads.

Lead Guitar 101 CD ROM can really help you out with this type of stuff if this is an issue for you.  Trust me it's a great CD ROM.  I'm very proud of it.

Leads

Harmonizer is optional for the beginning of this.  I didn't actually bother hooking mine up I just played another track off the 3rd of the notes guitar 1 was doing.  This is similar to what I cover on the "Lead Guitar 101" CD ROM.  See video for additional tips.    If you are going to use a harmonizer set it for the key of E minor and set it to harmonize off of the 3rd.

The harmonized leads are in Blue below in the tab.  So if you're one guitar (which most of you are barring any multiple personalities) I suggest just playing the parts in Black if you're by yourself.

I didn't tab out the exact pattern as it's a fairly random speed picking pattern.  Below are the sequences you should follow, see video for additional help.

switch to humbucking pickup for section below if possible.

Little take off from the Crazy Train solo below, except I'm doing mine in a minor key.  For Crazy Train the G on the 15th fret in this riff would be a G# on the 16th fret

Next and final line of solo overlaps the line above so if you're one guitar in a live setting then you would need to chop the last note above on the 16th fret short a little.
