Intro

Some less observant types might think that this intro has nothing to do with Rudolph the Red nosed reindeer. Oh contraire, this intro with it's power chord hits and wah voice sections is a Metallica style version of the actual Rudolph song into where the vocalist names off the other reindeer. It's the pre Rudolph song kick in basically. I just took it and molded it into how Hetfield might sing it, and mimicked that on guitar using a wah.. Throw a random "yeahuh" in there like he does all the time and you're all set.

It's all Rudolph through and through.. This should be a track that anyone can play, and should also be a great lesson is transposing vocal melody to guitar. It's all in good fun anyway. It's the holidays after all, and our end of year party season here at JFRocks..

That being said, we're not being too serious, and neither should you... Use the Jam Track to put your own version together, using mine as a template...

Watch the color coding in the tab. The colors distinguish the different guitar parts....

Guitar 1 - Remember, we're in a Dropped D tuning... and on the mp3 our guitars are tuned flat 1/2 step... So your actual tuning from low to high is, Db, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb

Secondary Riff & Song Kick in

This a riff that plays off of the drum beat... It's based on a classic Metallic style concept, which is to get the listener moshing... LOL.... This is Rudolph the Red after all...

Take note that guitar 1 and guitar 2 are doing different things.. Guitar 1 is playing a riff.. Guitar 2 is doing the same riff but with huge power chords...

All I've done here is have the rhythm guitar lay back and chunk chords around the drum beat.. This whole track is actually modeled after Whiskey in the Jar. The sound, the vibe, and idea, all of it stemmed from the Meallica version of that Celtic classic... So keep that in mind as you go through it.. They guitar 1 part is chunking along doing the Rudolph chords, and the guitar 2 lead part is doing vocal melody using primarily octaves... See video for tips...

This solo is a blending of things.. It's over the main verse and bridge parts of the song, however I've blended some Metallica lead improv techniques with actual Rudolph vocal melody... This mix makes the solo less predictable than it would have been had I just done a straight up lead version of the vocal melody... This mixture of improv phrasing and vocal melody from either a song, or your own song is a good lesson/tip for future guitar heroes out there to keep in mind..
