Intro / Part 1 - Key of A - Tempo 136 bpm

This is a mock up of the Classic "We will rock you" riff.  It's just an Embellishment on my part, but you'll get the idea of it from this anyway.

** Use Flanger setting number 1... (see settings table at the top of the page)

Flanger is OFF for this opening line of tab.  Flanger enters when indicated below.

Part 2 - The Bohemian - Key of Gm (or Bb Major if you prefer) - Tempo 68 bpm

This part uses some of the theory involved with Bohemian Rhapsody.
I've changed the timing here and there, but for the most part it's pretty true to form.  I suggest getting familiar with the timing on the JAm TRack before going into this... We'll cover this section in detail on the video lesson...

* Use a semi-clean tone to mimic a Piano...  Also use your fingers to play the part below..

There are 2 main guitar parts here.  The rhythm guitar and the lead.  Also note the harmonized portions as well.  It was common for Queen to use many tracks to record a piece.  They often mixed the rhythms very wide too.  We've done that with our track.  The rhythm guitar on the mp3 is far right and far left, and the leads are almost down the middle, only slightly offset to the left..

* Notice where the tension note off of the Gm is placed as compared to the Bb chord above.  On the high end we're going to the 2nd and the minor 3rd as our accent notes here with our Gm.  This means the tension note is 1st.  Where as with the Bb chord we went to the 5th and the 6th.  So our tension note was the 2nd or final part of the measure..

*Guitar 2 harmonized ending:  This guitar part simply follows the root notes of the power chords above as an accent.  Nothing too fancy, but most of the time it's the little things that matter...

You could also add a guitar 3 if you wanted, and I would suggest following the 3rds of the chords above if you did that.  But remember if you do that to stay in key.  Some of the chords above are technically minors.  Our key is Gm for this section.  That means that all B's, and E's are flat.  So that being said the E is a minor, as are the C, and the D.

So if you were going to harmonize with the 3rds it would look something like the mini-tab I put below this text in blue highlight...

Bohemian style solo

It's always important to know what you're soloing over.  Brian May tends to solo over some fairly complex chord changes.  This makes for more interesting leads, however if you're a blues box player it can also make your life a living hell.  The Pentatonic minor tends to lend itself best to chord patterns that stay on one chord for long periods of time.  Granted the solo below does look boxy however it's not a pentatonic minor scale by any means.

Depending upon your school of thought it's a mix of things but it's mostly the "G Phrygian scale"..  Which is the G minor scale with a flat 2nd.  However it does incorporate some straight up "G Aeolian" as well as " G Dorian" toward the end too.  (Aeolian is just a fancy pants way of saying the plain old "G minor scale", and Dorian is simply the minor scale with a Major 6th in it)..

If you're of the school of thought that this solo is in the key of Bb Major and not G minor then fine, this solo in that case would been seen as the "Bb Mixolydian scale" which is simply the Bb Major scale with a minor 7th in it...

Killer Queen style portion - Key of Gm - Tempo 120 bpm

I embellished this chord pattern a lot and made it even more jazzy than Queen did, just for the sake of a good jazz lesson if nothing else..  This is another clean guitar portion, this can be done either with the pick or with your fingers.  This is a mock up of the jazzy chord pattern used for the pre-solo and chorus of Killer Queen.  This is for the most part a jazz tune.  With a jazz progression under the solo.  Killer Queen is actually very similar to Big bad bill off the Van Halen Diver Down album.  It has the same sort of feel and chord progression anyway.  It has a swing double time feel to it but it's straight up 4/4 for the most part...

Killer Queen style leads

Now this has a very specific rhythm chord pattern under it.  I've embellished the chord pattern from the original Queen version to be a little jazzier, however I've left the root chords the same, which in turn is why the same style of soloing works..  See video for additional help here...

Outro Rock You portion - Key of A - Tempo 136 bpm

This is just a segue back to where we started.  I've changed the riff up a little, but for the most part it's just more practice for you with this style of riffing..  The Flanger is still set to the setting number 1 option...  This riff also works nicely with setting two, although it likes the higher width setting that setting 1 has to offer..
