Note: There
are a few over dubs on this track. I will explain what I did on the video
and give you the gist of this thing. Guitar 1 is the primary guitar and is
tabbed in bold below. All other guitar parts are tabbed in italic.
If you are one guitar in a live type setting or playing along with the mp3 you
would probably want to be guitar 1.
Main intro
riff
Done on acoustic
guitar but it works fine on clean electric as well. Please be sure to
use you fingers to play this.

** Under this intro is a clean Strat single coil with a pitch
shifter. I use the volume knob to swell in the notes to get the same
Violin effect I got on the very intro warm up to Vin Heuton's Mausoleum.
This time I used a different pickup than I did for the Mausoleum warm up and I
went for a Flute effect. Not perfect but it's close enough for Rock and
roll and not bad for a last minute addition to the track. **
Tabs for
Vio-Flute thing
Volume swell all
notes.
I used a Pitch
shifter to raise the pitch of the notes 1 octave.
Tabbed below is how you should play it without a pitch shifter. If you
have a pitch shifter then you can play it where I did 1 octave lower than what
is tabbed below. Tabs below will match the pitch of what I did on the
track.

Back into
Turnaround riff with slight Embellishment if you like. Drums Kick
in and we do 1 more round of the turn around riff. Then 1 go around of the
Chorus, then into the PRE- SOLO break which is tabbed below.
Pre-Solo
Break
Humbucking pickup,
Very Low level of Gain and the mid range is up fairly high, on about 6 or so.
Medium level of reverb. Do the Pre-solo break with the volume knob on your
guitar about 3/4 the way up. Then as we creep up to the solo crank the
volume knob and rip into some leads.

Solo
The Stairway to
heaven solo was one of the first solos I ever learned.
This solo is
loosely based on that solo and uses a very similar guitar sound as well.
It's also mixed on the mp3 much the same way Zep mixed it. The scales in
play here have already been covered earlier in this lesson. This is a
great example of Jimmy Page improv 101. Take a whack at it and be sure to
put some of yourself into it. See the video lesson for help.
Rhythm that's under the
guitar solo.

LEADS
The solo as with
any solo I've ever tabbed is broken up
into its individual riffing sections for ease of reading.
** The first note in the solo is
an Eb with a heavy vibrato that vibrato carries that note up to the pitch of E
and fluctuates it between Eb and E. The actual Stairway to heaven solo
starts with the 7th fret 3rd string (D) bent up 1 step to an E. I should
point out that while this solo has similarities to the actual Stairway to Heaven
solo this in fact is not that solo and is in reality a mix of "Page style"
playing. There are sections in this solo I took from things that happen in
other popular Page solos. This is a mix of things. It's about
playing within someone's style much like we've been doing with V. H.. in the
Vin Heuton lessons.
I
think this lead is a pretty good representation of Page Style playing and a darn
good solo too. Well worth learning for educational purposes I think.
This lead was improved on the spot but I tabbed it from slowed down audio /
Video so it's at least 99.9% accurate. Please note that I have simplified
it in a couple spots for ease of reading.

All notes picked,
you can be sloppy if you want. In fact the sloppier you are the more it
will sound like a Zep speed picked pattern.
Tab is spaced to make the pattern easy
to read. The pattern length may be shorter than what is on the mp3 but the
pattern is fairly accurately tabbed. It's just a repeating pattern
although some slop and variation may occur in an effort to make it sound like
Vintage ZEP.
